Celebrate Saint Patrick with the English Club!

Here we are again!

First of all don’t forget our March meeting next week dedicated to Ireland! Wednesday 18th March 9pm – Sala Conferenze Casa Giacobbe. You will meet our Irish friend Fergal Kavanagh with new version of Tune into Ireland

Some members have been very busy recently getting the 1859 exhibition on its feet. For those of you who don’t know, The English Club is preparing some material for an exhibition in Casa Giacobbe during the Battle of Magenta celebrations organised by the Comune. What was happening in other parts of the world while the Battle was raging in Magenta? You’d be surprised!
The theatre workshop is also working hard to produce a play not only performed but written by the actors themselves! That is planned for April so please don’t miss it.

But let’s get back to our next evening. March for the English Club often means St Patrick and just because the Irish may object to the word English we’d just like to say that it refers the language NOT the territory ! Ireland has an important but tormented history and who better to tell us about it than an Irishman!

18.3.2015 – Tune into Ireland – with Fergal Kavanagh

Casa Giacobbe (Sala Conferenze) at 9pm on 18th March

Some of you will no doubt remember Fergal Kavanagh. He has been a guest speaker at the Club more than once.

Fergal travels the country with his Road Show ‘Tune into English’ (website tuneintoenglish.com), intended for schools but which he did for us a few years ago. For those interested in the culture of Ireland, like us, Fergal has also presented ‘Tune into Ireland’ where he talks about the history of Ireland with the help of ta few traditional Irish songs.
Since he always drops in to see us when performing at schools in the area Fergal will be with us for our meeting on 18th March . Since we have already seen his Tune into Ireland presentation twice, Fergal has suggested a new version –which gives more importance to the songs themselves. He will explain the origin of the songs and with the help of Sergio we will be singing them too!
The evening is very special and we cannot keep it to ourselves! So please bring friends and relations: All we ask is a small contribution to expenses and to what is a ‘must’ in Irish celebrations – a Guinness!
So come and meet the most ‘simpatico’ Irishman ever . our friend Fergal Kavanagh!
Casa Giacobbe (Sala Conferenze) at 9pm on 18th March

May 2015 – Exhibition in Magenta

The ENGLISH Club will be collaborating with the Comune di Magenta during the Battle of Magenta celebrations in May-June.
We are planning an exhibition called ‘In the meanwhile….’ which will illustrate what was happening in the rest of the world during the Battle of Magenta in 1859 – with emphasis on English speaking countries, of course.

Meetings and activities have already started !

If you are interested in taking an active part or just have some ideas please let us know. You are very welcome!
