During the period on board the \u2018Beagle\u2019 as a naturalist I was shocked by some details related to the distribution of living things in South America and by the logical links between today\u2019s inhabitants of that continent and those now extinct.<\/em><\/p>\n

This evidence seemed to clarify the origin of the species, the mystery of mysteries.<\/em><\/p>\n

So, from wildlife\u2019s fight for survival, from famine and from death come directly the most important results we can imagine: the birth of superior animals<\/em><\/p>\n

Probably all the organisms that have ever lived on earth descended from some primitive form.<\/em><\/p>\n

My intent is to clarify the origins of man and his history.<\/em><\/p>\n

LE PAROLE DI DARWIN<\/em>\r\n\u201c Per quel che mi \u00e8 dato intendere, non sono nato per seguire ciecamente le orme di altri uomini. Mi sono sempre impegnato per mantenere una mente aperta, capace di rinunciare a qualsiasi ipotesi, anche la pi\u00f9 amata (e non posso fare a meno di formularne di nuove su ogni argomento), non appena emergano prove sufficienti a confutarla\u201d<\/em>\r\nDurante il mio periodo di imbarco sul regio brigantino \u201cBeagle\u201d, in qualit\u00e0 di naturalista, fui molto colpito da alcuni dati relativi alla distribuzione degli esseri viventi nell\u2019America meridionale, ed ai nessi geologici tra gli abitanti attuali e quelli estinti di quel continente.<\/em>\r\nTali prove sembravano far luce sull\u2019origine delle specie, questo mistero dei misteri!<\/em>\r\nCos\u00ec, dalla guerra della natura, dalla carestia e dalla morte, deriva direttamente il pi\u00f9 alto risultato che si possa concepire, cio\u00e8 la nascita di animali superiori.<\/em>\r\nProbabilmente tutti gli organismi vissuti sulla terra discendono da una qualche forma primitiva!<\/em>\r\nIl mio impegno sar\u00e0 quello di far luce sull\u2019origine dell\u2019uomo e sulla sua storia.<\/em><\/pre>\n
